Wenlo - The Way of the Crane: A Raid and Mythic+ Build for Midnight Mistweaver Monk (Pre-Patch)

Hello everyone!

Being a main Mistweaver Monk since Mists of Pandaria, raiding on Mythic difficulty each expansion and achieving multiple Cutting Edge titles, I decided to create a macro to help disabled players, newcomers to the class, or any healer Monk who wants to improve their performance in general with a build that delivers competitive results for high-end content.

(For people who want to see my old mistweaver monk sequence here the link Wenlo, the Chi-Ji Raid and Mythic+ Build The War Within Mistweaver Monk (Updated for Season 3) Wenlo The Master of Harmony Mistweaver Build )

This build is going to focus on the Way of the Crane aspect, which is the spec that bases its healing on the conversion of your damage into healing. We will try to optimize this as much as possible to ensure the best healing output from this aspect, while also dealing the highest damage possible at the same time. (The Way of the Serpent will be the next one.)

What this build essentially does is put your entire Fistweaver rotation on a single button (which accounts for roughly 80% of your total HPS). The only healing cooldowns you’ll need to manage manually are abilities such as Revival, Cocoon, and Invoke Chi-Ji

The sequence works as follows: Cast Rising Sun Kick to gain the Versatility buff from the Secret Infusion talent node, Rising Sun Kick on cooldown, then uses Tiger Palm twice followed by Blackout Kick and Spinning Crane Kick on Dance of Chi-Ji proc for the most optimized Fistweaving rotation possible. (It also uses Thunder Focus Tea once you have stacked enough Vitality to optimize your damage.)

Compared to the previous season, where we could freely swap between Celestial and Harmony Hero Talents, for Midnight we now gain a 50% buff to our healing from Ancient Teachings when selecting Master of Harmony, making it our main choice. (Celestial would be the main choice when playing with Way of the Serpent or an Ancient Teachings build that focuses more heavily on the HoT healing side.)

I) Pure Fistweaving Playstyle

The Firstsequence is for players who prefer a less automated setup. It will only perform the Fistweaver rotation, which is the most important part of Monk gameplay.

II) Fistweaving + Healing Over Time Build

The second sequence is aimed at players who prefer a more automated playstyle. It automatically uses your Renewing Mist charge on cooldown on your ally, trading some damage for increased healing. The upgraded Renewing Mist will also passively trigger Enveloping Mist and extend Hot duration with each Rising Sun Kick Cast

III) Fistweaving + Sheilun + Healing Over Time Build

The third sequence is aimed at players who also prefer a more automated playstyle. It automatically uses your Renewing Mist charges on cooldown on your allies, as well as Mana Tea and Sheilun’s Gift. This should be the highest HPS option of the three, trading some damage and less healing from Ancient Teachings for increased healing through HoTs and strong AoE healing from Sheilun’s Gift. The upgraded Renewing Mist will also passively trigger Enveloping Mist and extend HoT durations with each Rising Sun Kick cast

Thanks for all your comments, I’m glad you like it! I added a third and final sequence for this build, which uses Sheilun’s Gift. It should be our three possibl build option for Way of the Crane Mistweaver until Blizzard makes any changes, and I’ll update it if that happens. My next build will focus on the Way of the Serpent Mistweaver.

which is the best one for healing?

Still liking the second HOT version best. its crazy how easy it keeps the whole group topped up. Just make sure you hit something. Loving it, thanks.

They’re all pretty close, but for pure HPS the Sheilun build is a bit ahead, thanks to how strong Sheilun’s Gift is and how fast you can restack it with Mana Tea. It’s more bursty though, while the HoT version gives more passive HPS

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, thanks to our new talent Mistline who is doing wonders to keep people alive, I enjoy it

hey man just wondering are you going to be doing a Brewmaster one?

Sure, I’ll finish the Mistweaver Way of the Serpent build first, then Brewmaster Next

How exactly does the healing work, do i need to click their frame or is it mouseover?

Outside of pressing the macro and managing cooldowns occasionally, there’s nothing else you need to do.

Yes, at the time i was like level 13 and wondering why it wasnt even healing other than renewing mist, then i seen that it wont heal until 29 that way, my bad.

No problem. Yeah, until you unlock all the spells used by the sequence, it won’t work properly

Once i hit 29 it has been very smooth in timewalking dungeons.

Is there a recommended MS to run this at as well?

The DPS for the third macro seems to be really low, it doesnt seem to use blackout kick very often.

i’m running it at 100 ms. I just tested it and don’t see any issues. Could you share a screenshot of your Details / item level or a log so I can check what might be wrong?
