A noob's attempt at an affliction macro (PvP template added)

I do have a level 60 warlock (just hit 60 so take that as you well), but switched to Area 52 from Stormrage. Even then, I couldn’t find any affliction macro I liked at all so was rather stuck with destruction. Decided to do something about it and look at a few macros that I liked and then base it off them and then do it my own way. And from the time I’ve spent with it…it doesn’t seem to get stuck on unstable affliction ( a common problem it seems), but if it does, let me know.

I have no idea also at how dps will be at 60 or anything, hence well…“a noob’s attempt” :stuck_out_tongue: This may be the worst macro for affliction ever made. Especially since I have nothing on key presses, cause as the macro says, got carpal tunnel+arthritis combo and key presses are too hard for me. I do the same with destruction and it works for that spec with no key presses, hope same here when I get up to 60.

Here is the macro import code:

you may find this version a bit better, I moved drain soul to the end of the rotation, after casting malefic. I’ll leave 0.1 up just for historical purposes and if you would rather try that instead. I found shadow bolt/drain soul to not be in a good place in version 0.1, it would instead of casting corruption, would cast drain soul instead and then corruption (or skip it all together).

I don’t really use drain soul or shadow bolt much in my rotation to begin with, except as a final cast. No idea how optimal that is, but I’d rather get all my DOTs in and then cast it if the mob is even still alive.

Same as above, adds a second template for PvPers. It may work great in PvE still, the build isn’t really tested for PvE. This is the not-so-secret PvP template all affliction warlocks use for PvP. It offers high burst damage with a focus on drain life. Set the default to 2 if you want to try it. It requires a modifier :expressionless: for drain life or it doesn’t really work. I put it to shift as for me this is the only feasible key that is at least in vague reaching distance and doesn’t strain my hand “too” much. Especially if I put the macro on the “Q” button, there isn’t really any reaching required.

Either way, 1st template has no modifiers and is more the basic PvE build. Second is for PvP and maybe it will work great for PvE, does require ONE modifier for drain life, offers a lot of burst damage. I’d stick with the talents, except you’ll NEED inevitable demise. For PvE, I’d still recommend vile taint in a lot of cases. Phantom is the to-go-to for PvP, and its still decent for single target PvE.

Also I just realized, you also won’t take shadow’s embrace in the 2nd template. Go with haunt or sacrifice, haunt or maybe sacrifice (though in the WoW forum post the person recommended haunt for their PvP build, the youtube video shows sacrifice, granted entirely different build that one). I actually forgot this small detail, so I don’t have the macro set up to use haunt/sacrifice. Sacrifice is a one off ability so I probably wouldn’t add it to this anyway as you just press one button and it lasts an entire hour. Haunt I’m not sure where it will go in the rotation, I’d probably add it to the rotation in 1.4 tbh, since there is only 2 abilities there anyway as drain soul got removed from it. Specifically, adding before malefic and after agony.

I realized I forgot to set reset=combat to reset=target in the last bit of the rotation, hold out from bluesnow that had it reset only in combat. Since this is more DOT oriented than repeatedly casting shadow bolt/drain soul as that template has (which I imagine is better for resetting only on combat). I also forgot to add siphon life and haunt to the rotation, but this may need changing and improvement. I hope someone has advice to improve this, as I like it in general, but it feels like its a bit messed up than previous versions. I think haunt or siphon life could be switched to 1.3 block, but I’ll leave up what I’m currently using.

Last update for today, but needed to add the missing abilities. I’d probably recommend choosing one of the above versions for now, but maybe this one will feel good. Granted, this is a huge improvement imo over 0.1 that I originally uploaded.

added shadow bolt to the second template (or drain life if you went with that) to the rotation, its actually a lot better. It wasn’t even in the 2nd template at all, but I can see why it gets used.

Also be sure to set default to 1 if you prefer the no extra key press and the more normal playstyle, as I am playing with 2 to see how it goes and I have it set to default 2. Tbh even though its kinda painful after a while, it seems a lot better even doing dungeons.

This is also the final update till I hit at least 60 or people give recommendations/opinion on how bad the noobyness of this macro is :stuck_out_tongue:

Also as a heads up, haunt isn’t in the macro for template 2. Not sure where to put it, it will be in there in 0.4 but otherwise you’ll have to add it manually. It probably should be its own thing since it has a cooldown, put after mortal coil and before the sequences. Speaking of, in template 1 I have haunt in a sequence, it probably should be removed from there and put as its own thing.

Usage Information

Try it out, I’m just leveling but there isn’t much in the way of affliction stuff (almost nothing that is new) and its working out well for me. I based it off a couple macros (bluesnow and auto_affliction by nukester, with a bunch of my own changes).

I did remove key presses (for the pvp/maybe PvE build in template 2, it adds ONE key press…so not entirely key press free. The build for that one sadly requires it otherwise drain life is cast far too soon it needs to be controlled), as due to a combo of carpal tunnel and arthritis that makes it hard for me). Every other affliction that I saw uses key presses, maybe it will break things with this spec without it. But destruction is fully usable without extra key presses, so hope the same for affliction.

On the other hand, you get a choice of the typical build in the default template that works without key presses and probably one I’ll personally stick with. Or the build 2 for maybe heavy pve burst, otherwise pvp focused with one key press.

This macro contains 1 macro template (2 templates in 0.2.1). This Sequence was exported from GSE 3.0.74.

Let me know how it works out for you. I level slow since my mobility with my hands not so great to begin with, so I’ll probably end up making changes as I progress.

I uh, uploaded the wrong code :expressionless: I uploaded the proper code, I accidently used my old version. Sorry about that…well thats a noob for you :expressionless:

At least hopefully it seems maybe only 1 or 2 people may or may not have used it.

(last update for now). its what it should be. really should have cleaned it up before uploading and got everything right. Granted its not 100% mine as you will see, I based it off two that I liked, mostly combined them and removed a few things and set it to where so far its not stuck on unstable affliction over and over.

Though to do that, I removed an unstable affliction cast, because otherwise its too likely to get stuck in repeat mode (if its listed more than once), I meant to do that to begin with as that pretty much fixes the issue but it snuck by.

Also set the talents I will be using. This is using the build shown in this video

at around the 16:07 mark or so is the build. Except personally I use demon skin, old habit of just using it. I tried dark pact, still personally prefer demon skin

Formatted the post, so now its in actual code format instead of one big chunk of text.

Also uploaded version 0.2, since at least for me, is far more comfortable of a rotation. Shadow bolt/drain soul kept being cast instead of corruption. So I’d cast two DOTs, but the rotation would either take too long to cast corruption or skip it entirely. Personally would rather have all my DOTs up, cast malefic and then drain soul if the enemy is still alive at that point. Maybe I’m supposed to make a much bigger use of drain soul/shadow bolt (it does give soul shards), but even at 60 I barely use it.

There is also another slight variant you can try, replace drain soul (in version 0.2, wouldn’t work in 0.1) with drain life and take Inevitable Demise. I think this is more a PvP talent build as seems a popular build for PvP, but its supposed to offer huge amounts of burst damage. Most in this build seem to take the normal Phantom Singularity talent in this case, which still works for PVE.

There are some offshoots that mix in vile taint for PVE though instead of phantom for that “PvP” build I noticed in comments for it, but its a rather (currently) unknown talent setup.

Either way, I planned to take vile taint anyway from the video above. Whether a drain life focused build or a drain soul, not sure on that part. I’ll have to mess around with it, but it would definitely be a high burst build than sustained damage at that point. And not really sure it would work without a modifier key, as it would cast drain life when not ready with stacks to cast it.

Here is the post about the build, there is a youtube video floating around with a different build but same idea

There is this build too, I guess its different than I remembered

It takes a rather different approach, more purely PvP. While this macro won’t use that build, figured I’d put it up for other affliction warlocks.
