Devastation evoker (Scalecommander) – single target & mythic+ (test build)

Hello everyone,

Today I’m showing you a Devastation Evoker sequence for both single target and Mythic+ AoE.

This is a work in progress, so please give it a try and see how it feels in actual gameplay.

At this moment, I do not know if this will perform better or worse than Blizzard’s built-in assisted rotation feature, so treat this as experimental.

If it works well, great. If it doesn’t, please let me know and I will try to make adjustments.

Devastation Evoker is not a heavily played spec, so anything that helps make it easier to play without needing to constantly think about every ability can be a big benefit.

KEY MODIFICATIONS IN THIS BUILD

There are three main abilities handled with modifier-based control:

Fire Breath
Eternity Surge
Deep Breath

The way this works is simple:

Press the modifier key to begin casting the ability
Press the same modifier key again to stop or release the cast early

This is mainly to allow controlled usage of rank 1 empowered casts for Fire Breath and Eternity Surge.

Deep Breath works the same way, allowing you to cancel it early so you don’t overcommit or fly further than needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This setup is designed for usability and simplification, not maximum theoretical DPS optimisation.

FEEDBACK & UPDATES

I do not currently plan to update this regularly (not daily, weekly, or monthly).

If people try it and find it useful or have suggestions, I’m happy to revisit and adjust it in the future.

That’s it.

Have a great day, enjoy testing the sequence, and I look forward to any feedback.

Oh, and just so people are aware, I have not tried this out yet. I have basically just made it while I am still playing my Hunter right now. Once I am done with what I am doing on my Hunter, I will then jump onto my level 80 Evoker to give this a try. That is why I said it is experimental. It is a test build, and I have not tried it yet. You are my guinea pigs.

So hopefully, fingers crossed, it is not going to be trash. If it is fun and it is something I like, then I will continue to make adjustments to improve how it feels. So again, forgive me if it is not great, because I have not yet spent time properly testing it. I just thought of it while I was playing my Hunter, and there we go.

All right, so right now I am having a play around with the sequence to get things working correctly. The current version I posted was, like I said, made without any actual testing. It was just me thinking, “All right, let’s go ahead and do this.” It does not necessarily work correctly when it comes to firing off the modifiers, so I am now trying to work around things to see if I can get the modifiers to trigger when you press the key, and then stop casting when you press it again.

You do not want to end up casting a rank two or three of the skill when you actually want the full ability to go off. I think if you move while casting Fire Breath and Eternity Surge, they do not complete and instead get cancelled. So I am just trying to get that sorted out.

All right, so the interesting thing I have noticed so far with this sequence is that getting it to work effectively is a pain because Fire Breath, Eternity Surge, and Deep Breath, with the way they are designed and how you fire them off, cannot really be handled cleanly in a simple setup.

The only effective way to use this sequence is essentially a four-button setup. You cannot really do a one-button sequence with it, unfortunately. You need separate keybinds ready for Fire Breath because you need to press it once and then again for rank 1. The same applies to Eternity Surge, and then Deep Breath as well. GSE does not have the systems in place to recognise abilities with multiple ranks and automatically select rank 1 only. It does not work that way, which is unfortunate.

So I will leave this sequence here for people to take and modify as they want. Based on my testing so far, until GSE is updated or new systems are added that allow abilities like Deep Breath or Fire Breath to be integrated properly into a sequence, this is about as far as it can go.

Even the single-button assistant does not seem to handle those spells very well, including Eternity Surge. So for the time being, I will leave this build as it is and come back to it in the future. Maybe something will change that makes it easier, or I might discover certain commands within the WoW system that allow these abilities to work more cleanly.

As it stands, I can definitely understand why Evoker is rarely used with sequences.
