I wanted to share some sims I’ve run lately. I’ve ran them in several places, but I wanted to respond sort of in general to a few questions I’ve been getting lately and requests for my opinion.
So let’s start with the sims:

This is a sim of my character currently in 336 average ilvl gear. I am built for Mythic/Mythic+ in my gearing strategy, and I also tailored my sims around those battle scenarios since they would most closely represent what we all would experience in questing, reg/heroic dungeons, mythics of course, and future LFR runs. If you are a normal or higher raider, then I expect you to take these results with some salt and sim for your best self, but this is a great cross-section for about 80-90% (arbitrary number) of users.
My interpretation:
First of all, the exploit with Unbound Chaos and Momentum has been fixed as of last Thursday. Don’t do that anymore, it doesn’t work.
That being said, almost everything you are going to be doing will be a mix between AoE and ST fights. Generally almost every pull up until a boss will be AoE, and thankfully for us, the distinction between ST and AoE is very minimal. It comes down to a couple talents, your trinkets, and not much else.
As you can see from the chart, your talents won’t really net you too much more DPS over other combinations, unless you are really bad at lining them up. For example, if you are perfect with Momentum it should net more DPS than Demonic or Nemesis by around 150 DPS. Perfect. Mess it up once and kiss that very small lead goodbye. In contrast, Nemesis will out DPS the others in ST situations almost by a mile, but drops of by a huge percent in any AoE situation, especially when you’re not using it until the boss. Demonic, then, comes off as a middle ground talent. It’s completely passive, buffs both AoE and ST, and does so by an amount that edges out even the best-case use of the other two talents. Again, if you mess up on either of those other talents, you will lose a ton of DPS. Makes Momentum boil down to a trash/quest talent and Nemesis a boss talent, and Demonic an everything talent.
Same goes for Trail of Ruin vs Fel Barrage. For the active effort of holding off on Barrage until it’s optimal you can gain a few hundred in AoE situations, but lose massively in ST ones. You might lead in DPS across a dungeon, but on each boss you won’t be as useful.
Felblade, however, is not balanced in any content. In the above sims, it’s a 400 DPS loss at best, no matter the combination of talents. In detailed views it is close to Blind Fury in ST situations, but Eye Beam’s buff to ST damage still pulls ahead. And in AoE situations? No contest. 5 more critical ticks over X mobs is just still so insane. And if you take Demonic, you get an automatic extra tick of damage for Eye Beam, further pulling it out in the lead.
This is why I am confident I have chosen the very best talents and built the macro around that.
