IceDK's Death Knight Rotation

Intro

First attempt at posting here despite being a long time user. I was not satisfied with the macros on here for Frost DK so I made my own.

Main Goal

This macro attempts to only do the core rotation, spending procs as they come up with EXCEPTION to Rime procs.

Why isn’t Howling Blast in the main rotation.

I fire Howling Blast manually since doing otherwise is a waste of DPS and runes. For reference, Howling Blast should only be fired at the very start of a encounter to rapidly get Frost Fever on the target, afterwards, you should only cast it in these 2 cases.

  • You have a Rime proc : 99% of the time
  • Frost Fever is about to expire. 1% of the time

In my experience , Rime procs are so consistent that having to force a Howling blast into the rotation is almost unheard of. So keeping it in the core rotation makes no sense.

Notes

This macro DOES NOT use any DPS cooldowns.

The following are manually fired since I find that better for Mythic+.

  • Frostwyrm’s Fury : DPS cooldown
  • Death and Decay : Why waste your main cleave on cooldown while chasing a tank ?
  • Abomination Limb : This is situational entirely.
  • Empower Rune Weapon : DPS Cooldown

Talent Notes:

You will probably want to adjust the base death knight tree, Ive just been running whatever I want there except for the DPS gains. For instance, AMZ should be taken for Mythic+ not Death Pact lol.

Performance

With Ilvl 582
Zero Raid Buffs or Any other Buffs

  • At 250ms : Single Target : Initial burst with CDs is roughly 580-600K, over the course of a 2 minute fight this ends up stabilizing around 380-415K procs dependant.

  • At 250ms: 5 Cleave Targets: Initial burst with CDs is roughly 1.6M over the course of a 2 minute fight this ends up stabilizing at 950K . Death & Decay is only cast at the open of the fight to be consistent for testing So in reality you will see much higher numbers than this.

Running the macro

You have two options, clicking the button on your bars via this macro. Which is what I personally do.

Or you can keybind it and then run with AHK with a 250ms safe speed. ( note Timothy the creator here has said many times that 250 is the lowest you should EVER go for click speed. )

hi mate, but rune strike in your macro what is?

Rune Strike is the base spell, it is replaced by Obliterate via talent, GSE automatically converts Obliterate to Rune Strike inside of Macros.

So something is wrong. D&D weird is not triggered, but it is not in the macro either.
Pillar of Frost and Reaper’s Mark should be used manually because it loses damage to play it on cool down.
Maybe you can refine the macro a bit, once with and once without a CD. Maybe also an AOE version with D&D.

Good points I don’t mind removing those two from the rotation actually. I just want the core rotation on a sequence, and your right, those two should not be on the rotation if I’m trying to maximize DPS. Ive been tinkering with it actually to try to get those both to cast together from within the sequence but just pulling them altogether makes sense as well .

I have been using this to lvl up via timewalking this week. It does great. Cannot tell how it is in real content though. I hope the creator keeps it up to date is all. Need to remove frost wyrms fury from it. Long cooldowns should be manual
