Ret Paladin – AOE/ST 4-Set GSE
Hi everyone,
This is my first public release of the Retribution Paladin GSE setup I have been developing for Season 2.
It uses separate AOE and single-target sequences, with major cooldowns kept on a separate WoW macro. This gives you control over your burst and makes it easier to use the four-set bonus with Divine Arbiter Prompt.
I am currently using these sequences successfully in Mythic+ 15s and 16s. They feel smooth, and I have not experienced persistent generator loops, spender lock-ups or lengthy pauses.
Talents
This is the Execution Sentence Mythic+ build I use:

The setup is designed around Herald of the Sun, Execution Sentence and Avenging Wrath.
AOE sequence
Use this as your main sequence on trash and multi-target pulls.
Divine Storm is the normal spender. When Divine Arbiter Prompt asks for the opposite spender, cast one Final Verdict and then return immediately to the AOE sequence.

Single-target sequence
Use this on bosses and priority single targets.
Final Verdict is the normal spender. When Divine Arbiter Prompt asks for the opposite spender, cast one Divine Storm and then return immediately to the ST sequence.

Separate burst macro
Create this as a normal World of Warcraft macro rather than a GSE sequence:
#showtooltip Execution Sentence
/cast Avenging Wrath
/castsequence reset=30 Execution Sentence, Divine Toll
Execution Sentence and Divine Toll both use the global cooldown, so Divine Toll requires another press after Execution Sentence.
Continue pressing the burst key through the next global cooldown until Divine Toll visibly casts. I also recommend keeping Divine Toll on a separate backup key.
How to use the sequences
Trash and AOE packs
-
Run
AS_RET_AOE_4SET. -
Divine Storm is your normal spender.
-
When prompted, cast one Final Verdict.
-
Return immediately to the AOE sequence.
Bosses and single targets
-
Run
AS_RET_ST_4SET. -
Final Verdict is your normal spender.
-
When prompted, cast one Divine Storm.
-
Return immediately to the ST sequence.
You only need one cast of the opposite spender. Do not remain on the opposite sequence.
Divine Arbiter Prompt
For Mythic+, my current setting is:
Setup mode: Balanced
Buff prompt: Enabled
Balanced works well because Mythic+ regularly changes between AOE packs, priority targets and bosses.
For predominantly single-target raid encounters, try Single Target mode. For sustained multi-target encounters, use AOE mode.
Modifier or sequence switching
You can handle the opposite spender in either of two ways:
-
Use the modifier included in the sequence.
-
Briefly switch to the opposite sequence for one spender.
I currently find switching between the AOE and ST sequences comfortable, but either method works.
If you use Ctrl as your modifier, open GSE Options and ensure:
Pause Sequences While Ctrl Is Held: OFF
If this option is enabled, holding Ctrl can pause the sequence.
Recommended key speed
The sequences have been tested at:
200 ms
Faster input cannot bypass the global cooldown and may make it harder to see whether a spender or Divine Toll has fired.
I recommend starting at 200 ms and only changing the speed after comparing complete logged runs.
Cooldowns, trinkets and potions
Execution Sentence, Avenging Wrath and Divine Toll are controlled by the separate burst macro.
On-use trinkets and Potion of Recklessness are currently left under manual control. This prevents them being wasted between pulls or on targets that are about to die.
There is no separate no-cooldown GSE version because the main sequences already leave major cooldowns under manual control.
Feedback
If you test the sequences, useful feedback would include:
-
Dungeon and key level
-
Input speed
-
Whether you used the modifier or switched sequences
-
Any skipped spenders or repeated generators
-
Whether Divine Toll reliably fired
-
Warcraft Logs data where possible
I will continue testing the setup in higher keys and adjust it if the logs identify a consistent issue.
Thanks
A big thank you to Druss, Ricore, Zan and Orbalisk. Their macros, testing and discussions made the game much more enjoyable for me and encouraged me to start developing and testing my own sequences.
I hope these help other players. Constructive feedback and logged test results are very welcome.
Thank you,
Retadin
