Vengeful Retreat Followed by Felblade

When you (manually) press Vengeful Retreat, and about a second later, Felblade you zap right back to your target and you don’t lose ground because of the Vengeful Retreat. The Felblade charges you back quicky so long as you’re not too far away when you press it. You can do this fairly well manually. Not so with a macro.

Yet, for the life of me, cannot replicate this using macros.

I’ve noticed that if you’re too close to the target the game mechanics simply does the Felblade, and there is no game mechanic charging you back (damage shows up in the log though). From this I conclude you need something of a minimal distance for the charge effect to take place. So the macro needs something of a pause. I cannot get this correct.

One of two things happens. I Vengeful Retreat and Felblade as I’m flying backwards (so both skills get used) but I still end up a large distance away. Or, I Vengeful Retreat and end up too far away for the Felblade to take effect (it has a maximum range constraint).

I’m trying to use the macro to use Felblade to ensure my Vengel Retreat doesn’t send me too far away from my target (while still getting the initiative bonus).

The issue your having is because you are using Felblade. Try using fel rush instead ie:
/castsequence [mod:shift, nochanneling] Vengeful Retreat, Fel Rush
I use this in my macro in game and works flawlessly. Hope this helps

Thanks. Fel Rush takes you a set distance regardless and, indeed, works. Felblade, when used manually, takes you precisely back to your target. Fel Rush moves you in the direction you want to go, but where you end up is less precise. I agree that your suggestion works, but in my opinion, it provides less control. In PVE and most M+ environments, that’s ok. Raids, on the other hand, where you end up matters. I was favouring Felblade for precisely that reason. If I can’t get it working, I will have to adopt your suggestion.

the best way to tackle this is vengeful retreat > fell rush (this always stops short as the travel distance is less than VR) > fell blade.

the felblade covers the last few yards and works perfectly for me.

you are actually better to charge THROUGH the mob doing the opposite, Felrush then > Vengeful Retreat back into the mob as you are always on contact with the mob and can do a lot more sustained damage.

This also has the advantage that you can see what you are rushing to, rather than VR back into another mob.
