Will jump on one of my bears and try the new macro. Will let you know.
i am waiting for add moonfire
Soā¦have run a 5 dungeons. Aggro control is overall better. Still lost it to a fury warrior- talked to the guy afterwards and he said it happens with all tank specs he has run with- even if he waits to do the burst. DPS increase is there on a dummy but not in actual practice in a dungeon. DPS doesnāt matter to me anyways- my job is to tank not to do dps.
@Shiraken . Hereās a trick. BInd your ST and AoE to 2 keys on your mouse that are beside each other. The ST macro has a moonfire opener. Once you get aggro on a group, press the ST button till moonfire pops, then tab thru and put it on all the other mobs- go back to AoE to maintain aggro and stacks for survivability- then rinse and repeat. There is a bit of a learning curve because you donāt want to sacrifice survivability for moonfire- but after a few dungeons the flow of this trick becomes smooth.
What ive done is very similar to this is, i have a button macroād at like 1ms and assign it to moonfire, that way i keep the aoe rotation going with tabbing and just holding the 1ms button until moonfire pops, tab and repeat
The issue I still have is this fat bear is slow. If you speed him up you take a hit. There are ways to help with this via dash and engineer speed boost. Hereās hoping blizz fixes the talent tree for fat bear.
Iāve added my touch to this Hermit and moonfire is in the rotation but be light on regrowth or it will pull you out of bear (there must be away around this). Hitting these while on rotation triggers the followingā¦
SHIFT: Regrowth
Ctrl: Frenzied Regeneration
ALT: Incapacitating Roar
Here is my all rounder but mainly AOE setup: Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks totally possible I removed it from the original and forgot I made that change too been using it a long time. lol
I like my BS for a mini CD and to make sure I have it ready at the start of a new trash pull to smooth out the IF down time. Easy for me to make that change after each update Iāll just change the top lines to this. Also auto range pulls for soloing

/cast [noform:1, nochanneling] Bear Form; [nocombat] Moonfire; [mod:alt] Frenzied Regeneration; [mod:shift] Incapacitating Roar
I realize this is a lengthy post, but I feel the need to explain my thought process. I love the feedback and requests and hope they continue, but if I donāt implement a suggestion, it doesnāt mean itās not possible. It may just not meet certain goals for this version.
So, what are the goals?
- It should be reduced to as few buttons as possible. Preferably, it should be an AoE and a ST macro. Although in single-target raiding fights, the AoE can be replaced with an off-tank macro for higher DPS and saving defensives.
- It needs to be usable across all content: M+, Raids, Open World, and even some PvP. It should be effective in as many difficulties as possible and not dependent on gear or stats.
- It should cover as much of the core rotation as possible, performing it at a high level of competency, while leaving utility, cooldowns, and defensives up to the player.
- It should be simple to modify and understand how it works.
- It should never stall out.
Letās apply this to Dream of Cenarius, which is in competition with Ursocās Endurance. We need to decide which is better for the macro.
Before the patch, the math was about equal for defensive values. The main difference was that Dream of Cenarius allows you to cast Regrowth on another party member, while Ursocās Endurance equates to dealing more damage with Thorns of Iron. However, the patch removed the capstone talent that buffed Regrowth. In addition in TWW our health increase will effectively be nerfing the healing by 60%, while Ursocās Endurance remains at the same value. The ability to spam Regrowth without accidentally changing out of bear form was removed. In TWW, we will likely want to use it on ourselves as we take the most damage and canāt heal everything ourselves, which removes the niche it had of spot healing others. While we could do a mouseover for it within the macro, itās going to take up a lot of space in each block and may cause stalls like when you mouse over with Rebirth. This leaves the option to have a separate keybind with a mouseover macro, which violates goal one.
With Favored of Elune not using Raze, we will likely be armor capped in season one, decreasing the defensive value of Ursocās Endurance but causing it to do even more damage. We are probably going to want to pick up Layered Mane and Reinforced Fur. When combined with Ursocās Endurance, this will provide insane amounts of armor, reducing auto attacks (by 85%) which hit brutally hard in beta, while also dealing 20% (actually less because of diminishing returns) of that armor as damage.
Once this is laid out, we see that itās less complicated and likely has higher returns to just stick with Ursocās Endurance.
So, in the original macro, Moonfire was cast with the following line:
/cast [nochanneling] reset=combat/target Moonfire, null
This looks impossible at the moment. Because they removed the ability of reset = target. Because we canāt know how many targets are in an AoE pack, when it should be refreshed, or even consistently know when itās going to be cast using GSE, it wouldnāt work to just add moonfire itself to the macro.
Iāve wracked my brain trying to think of some condition that we could trigger to get it to cast. Unfortunately, I canāt think of one (although Stromwolf did, and one which will be implemented to ensure itās the first cast on single target, then itās up to the macro to maintain the dot).
What I think the best solution is:
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead] Remove Corruption; [@mouseover,harm,nodead] [harm] Moonfire
If we bind this to 1, you should be able to hold it down and mouse over each target that needs it, then go back to 2 for your AoE. Iām not a big fan of this as it adds another key, and it would now require the user to watch the Thrash buff to ensure they donāt spam Moonfire too long for it to fall off. This is why I got the bug up my butt to get high Thrash uptime.
An alternative would be to have a block high in the loop for Moonfire and add the mouseover to it, constantly mousing over different targets. However, this can cause stalls, gets tiring constantly moving to another target, and is less precise.
True, thatās because on the dummies, we are typically stacking cooldowns while in a run, we hold them back. There is still a DPS increase, but itās a lot less than the 20% I stated. I should have been more specific about it being on dummies as itās the only way I can check consistency between versions.
I would bump that up to probably 100ms. There is little noticeable difference to us, but 1ms is hard on the server and can potentially cause you to be banned (Iāve never met anyone who was, but Iāve heard it said that it has happened if you go too low on the ms).
Yeah, I had the same problem. Itās been so long I canāt remember. Depending on tuning, I may need to take BS off the macro. Iāve seen tanks get one-shotted through 4 IF stacks and a 20% DR. Iām hoping this is a bug or overtuned and not intended.
Just want to say again, this is pure genius, and Iāll be adding it to the next version. It really solves the problem with timing the first Moonfire in a single target fight. I was so preoccupied with conditions in combat, it never occurred to me that itās on pull, so you can use the condition of going out of combat into combat to trigger itā¦
Anyway I just want to thank everyone again for the help and suggestions. I love when it feels like its a community project. I hope explaining how I make decisions about this macro helps you guys and just because I donāt include something doesnāt mean you should go and just try it out. Feel free to link them here as Iām sure there is someone who will find that they like it better.
This weeks goals.
- Convert ST version to the loop method.
- Correct the timing of moonfire in the new version for 100% uptime.
- Add the nocombat moonfire to the ST version.
- Release the offtank version that removes IF and Barkskin for higher damage on single target raid fights.
Make a video on my set up. Need to remember to not use an Inky darkness potion and maybe fiddle with settings because the videos I took before canāt really be seen on the monitors at work.
Work on the FAQ.
So up to like 10 dungeons on my 2 guardians (yeah, my guild thinks Iām nuts too) with 2.0.3. Aggro control and survivability are superb. This is really well done.
Thank you, that is kind of you to say. I really got used to using the old macro with the target reset Moonfire for one button pulls and shift to bear in open world content.
The limitations to what GSE can do now are just something we will all have to live with, wonāt get all the same functionality back in some cases. Iāll miss tab targeting to spread Moonfire in AOE packs and to pick up a bunch of quest mobs easily, but I would think most of use have a keybind with an @mouseover Moonfire. I love the idea of stacking it with Remove Corruption help/harm modify, that is brilliant.
Thanks again for all the work on this, hope you feel apricated for it
oak just made a tutorial video to fix the reset target thing on youtube ill post the link down here maybe this can help
GSE Tips and Tricks - World of Warcraft TWW and Pre-Patch (youtube.com)
I tested in a stand alone in game macro and it still locks it up, I think what he is saying is that reset = target is removed from the game. So instead we can create a macro that GSE calls on. That wouldnāt help in this situation though as it would still be an unconditional moonfire.
Now I could add it to a modifier (no need to make it a separate macro,) or perhaps run two versions, version one uses a separate mouse over macro while version two uses a modifier.
Iām on bear number 5 and thinking of using the boost I got from TWW on another bear that will just be for professions and farming. Iām not one to be calling the kettle black.
I know I was prone to occasionally pulling things I didnāt mean to because tab target would tab to a pack not in combat or in the last 1% the mob would die and I would moonfire the next pack and spread them out. While I loved it the more I think about it a mouseover is probably the best bet for me as it offers a lot of control. There are also a ton of things to dispel in season 1 so being able to do it quickly is useful. I know others donāt have the limitations I do on the amount of keys or modifiers I can press so Iām almost certainly going to make a version with a modifier to cast moonfire.
Or perhaps the mousover moonfire/decurse and we tack on a wild charge. Hmm so many possible options.
Using 2.0.4 this morning in some runs- donāt notice much of a change so it must be subtle. Aggro control and survivability still outstanding- hardly ever use FR- sometimes a bad thing because I will look up and be under 60% health and itās like 'uh oh better press FR Think I will push to 3k just for kicks and giggles. Wonāt be much else to do until launch since Iām not an xmog guy.
Yeah the changes to the AOE were just modifiers. The big changes were making the ST into the same loop method as the AOE and adding a OT. I also made moonfire be on the shift mod I think, so that the player can choose to either use a mod or use a separate mouseover macro.
I typically wait till 50%. You get more healing the lower you are and its effected by mastery. You also get 20% increased healing so if the healer panics you donāt waste your FR charge. Granted thats only really in content you need both charges.
Testing another complete new rebuild over the next week or two.
There are ways around some of the issues this macro has but it involves starting from the ground up. Such as incompatibility with the WA and inability to nest the GSE macro into a normal one. It will also allow you to Moonfire on target change again.
To test this you will need to delete the GSE keybinds and rebind those keys. Than place the in game macro on the key you wish to use just like the old way of doing things.
It looks to be a small dps increase in this version but Iām not happy with the damage breakdown and it looks like a bit of rage is lost in incarn. Iāll solve those issues in another version. I want to test this before sinking to much time into it.

New build for Favored of Elune. This one works pretty much perfect. Does as much damage on live as GH_AOE_2.0.4 but has earthwarden, maxed armor, and a lot more uses of FR. Need to test on Beta but I donāt have access. The only problem if that is one is that it doesnāt have a lot of burst damage so you will need to hold Lunar beam for on pull as its your only offensive CD. Swapping out to an incarn version of the build should be fine with the macro as well.

i love more 2.0.4, i think is better more tanking bear
Yeah there are some issues, with the new macro. I spent more than 12 hours trying to improve it, but it seems to fire more slowly (not sure if this has to do with spell queing,) there are always stalls and it seems to fire more randomly.
I did discover a couple of things that could potentially help such as being able to nest at least three GSE macros into a in game macro. While it seems to help with the stalls it definitely seems to cause even more randomness.
Between medical bills and my second monitor dying this week I might have to wait a bit but I think being able to edit the complied version (requires patron support) might help.
I think as is 2.0.4 works just fine for now. And the TWW works with the new version without issue, so we can swap in the new expansion.
EmbraaceChaos came up with a good alternative way to cast moonfire.
Replace this with the similar line in each block. It combines both the mod and the mouseover methods.
